How to Adding Text, Labels, and Dimensions to a SketchUp Model

Learn about the different types of texts added in the SketchUp software

Four types of text can be added to the SketchUp model, which are as follows:

Screen text

This type of text can be fixed on the screen and can also be used to label a design model.

Leader text

This type of text is the arrow or line, which points to the model entity.

3D text

The 3D text can be made with the actual faces or edges, which can be used to show the numbers on the front of the house.

Dimensions

The dimension tool can be used to create the dimension entity. This entity has links with the circle, line or arc entity, which helps to display the measurements and can also update those measurements as per the design requirements.

Creation of the labels

In the SketchUp software, the label tool enables users to create labels in the design model. There are two components in the labels, which include the label and the leader. The users have to set the labels and type the label text.

Auto-text labelling feature

The auto-text labelling feature of the SketchUp software is another important feature, which contains several auto-text options.

Selection of the label entity

There are three selection boxes in a label entity. These three states include:

➢ At first, the users have to click on a label entity. In this context, the user can apply the text and style changes and can also move those elements.
➢ In the next step, the user has to double-click on the leader line of the label entity to see the selection box. In this context, the users are able to edit the properties of the leader line and can also move those elements.
➢ In the next step, the user has to double click on the leader line for two times to open the leader line, which enables the users to modify and move the points of the leader line.

Moving the labels

The select tool enables users to move the label or the parts of the label. In addition, the users are also able to move the labels in other ways, including rotating the label, changing the entity to which the label has been connected and resizing the text box of the label.

Editing labels

The users are able to edit the labels with the help of the Text Style panel in the case of Microsoft Windows or the Fonts dialog box in the case of the MacOS.

The text bubble plugin allows users to add text bubbles to the design models. The appearance of the text bubbles, including the colour of the text bubbles, the size of the text bubbles and the font of the text bubbles, has also been customised with the help of the text bubble plugin.
