Sketch Up is a great product and a surface modeler for sketching ideas and visualizing the designs for manufacturers of furniture and other products made from sheet materials (wood, metal, glass, etc) Here 3d models are made up of 2d pieces, like a cabinet or a furniture project.

By applying sketch up we can quickly transform an idea into a 3D sketch from basic line diagrams or photos which led to development for accurate working drawings

and cutlist. We can then add joinery and other details to complete the working drawings and cutlist. We can also move furniture, change wood color, add a desk or anything else you want.

With pre-built 3D models of furniture parts sketch up gives assistance to woodworkers to plan their projects and produce very impressive 3D renderings of furniture, quickly and easily. Get your furniture models out into the world through Google Earth and the 3D Warehouse. It reportedly does a good job with filled in drawings, raised panels and other typical furniture construction details. We can also resize the dimensions of your furniture in order to set them to your home or building.

With Sketch Up furniture design everything is either an edge or a face. Edges can be thought of as lines. When three or more edges exist in the same plane (a flat surface) and are connected, they form a face. If one of the edges that bound the face is removed, the face is also removed.

Sketch Up with its components makes it possible to treat each piece in the model as if it is the real part of the furniture - the arm, leg, stretcher, stile, rail, panel, etc. You are able to change it, copy it and flip it.
