The displacement feature allows you to deform a geometry with the help of an image. Deformation will work best and will be maximum for white images and for black images it will not work. The image should always be grayscale.

Displacement facilitates the users to reproduce the texture of a surface with the use of a black and white image to define the changeable height of the surface.

Displacement truly generates the geometry that is defined by the image. It is performed by subdividing a specified piece of geometry and modifying the individual heights of all of the faces on the basis of the image that it is explaining. How to include Displacement: The users may apply their current bump maps as displacement maps. In the Maps rollout of the material options there exist an option for Displacement.
