Sketchup for real exhibition in museum – An exclusive one day course by The Kent State University School of Library and Information Science / museum
The Kent State University School of Library and Information Science / museum is going to host a noncredit, one-day skill clinic on SketchUp for Museums which will take place on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kent State SLIS alumna Emily O’Connor, M.L.I.S. ’13, the most recognized Environments Designer, will perform as the course instructor.
This one day course on sketchup will be very useful for SLIS students and alumni, mainly in the museum studies specialization as well as other museum professionals based in NE and central Ohio who want to study the various applications of the software.
By undergoing this course one will get familiar with the tools and features of Google SketchUp Pro 8 and walk around the diversified ground-breaking technologies of sketchup and how these can be applied to exchange ideas & information in a visual atmosphere. The attendees can also explore how sketchup can be a handy tool for making real exhibitions. The attendees can also get a practical training on how to create a model of their own. In this course, there will be also focus on some advanced features of sketchup like Google Earth and LayOut.

Agenda: Morning Fundamentals of Model – modeling approach, gather knowledge on the Toolkit Simple Model Walkthrough – practice with the Toolkit Modeling Buildings – drawing floors and walls, going from 2D to 3D, drawing doors and windows, stairs, and roof
Afternoon:
- Model Organization – grouping, components, layers
- Model Appearance – Importing jpegs, applying and using styles, using light and shadow
- Presenting a model – using scenes to create animation
- Printing and exporting
- Brief intro to Google Earth, 3D Warehouse, LayOut
